The Alpine Climbing Course combines classroom lecture, field instruction and climbing experience designed to provide the basic skills necessary to safely climb rock, snow and glaciated peaks of the Pacific Northwest. The course covers the selection and care of equipment, snow and glacier travel and camping, belaying, rappelling, a little alpine rock climbing, crevasse rescue and many other topics.

During field trips and actual climbs, the student will apply these skills with the guidance of experienced mountaineers. Participants should desire to learn technical mountaineering skills and be aware that this course requires a significant time and energy commitment.
You can borrow mountaineering boots and most of your technical equipment for the course at no cost. A detailed equipment list is included in the course syllabus.
Lectures: Mondays, Feb. 9, 16, 23. March 2, 9, 30, 31: 1800-2100. Full attendance is required to graduate the course.
Overnights:
Glacier & Snow Travel: March 21-22, 0700-1900 (We will be camping in a winter environment, which will mimic the actual approach, camp and start of an alpine climb)
Overnight Rock Trip: April 11-12, 0700 - 1900

Cost: $625
Participant restrictions: 16+ and capable of carrying 30+lbs over 2000+ feet of elevation gain.
