Lifeguard Training

Get in on lifeguard training! Cost: FREE! Find out about lifeguard employment. We have opportunities for those who wish to become lifeguards at JBLM pools. To get paid for taking Lifeguard Training, you must apply as a Lifeguard Trainee first. Classes will be held on the following dates:

• DEC: 29-31 (3 day schedule)

• JAN: 10-11 & 17-18
• FEB: 14-15 & 21-22
• MAR: 20-22 (3 day schedule)
• APR: 3-5 (3 day schedule)
• MAY: 1-3, 15-17
• JUN: 12-14, 26-28
• JUL: 10-12 (3 day schedule)
• AUG: 8-9 & 15-16
• SEP-NOV: No classes

To become a lifeguard student, you must be age 15 or older. Email usarmy.jblm.imcom.list.dfmwr-swim@army.mil or call 253-967-5026 to schedule an in-water pretest at least two business days before the first day of class. The pretest consists of a 300-meter front crawl or breaststroke swim, a two-minute leg-only tread, and a timed brick retrieval.

Upon successful completion of the pretest, the instructor will email you the blended learning online content. The training includes a pocket mask and certification. You must complete an online course (approximately seven hours) prior to the first day of class. Expect a physically strenuous class with skills work both in and out of the water.
