COVID-19

COVID-19

Your health is our primary concern. JBLM continues to follow protection measures on base to keep service members, families, civilian employees and others safe. Customers and team members are asked to visit the nearest washroom to clean their hands before conducting business in our locations.

Any changes to facility and program operations will be shared here and on facebook as soon as updates are available.

Basewide closures, postponements and cancellations can be seen here.

NEW!

CHILD CARE
July 14 will be the last day of care for our mission essential families who were not care prior March 16. Patrons impacted by this change should have received a letter notifying them of this. If you didn't get a letter, your care will continue. We understand childcare availability remains an issue both on and off the installation, but leadership has priority on 1C and 1D families.
Currently still 380+ 1D families who had care prior to COVID-19 that have not been returned to care. CYS is actively looking for space to expand childcare since we do not expect COVID mitigation strategies to be lessened in the near future.

For incoming families, please ensure you get signed up on the CYS waitlist for care through militarychildcare.com. We are attempting to also place 1C (single and dual military families) as well. There are already 150 1C children on the waitlist, but this helps us to continually address need.

Militarychildcare.com also requires families to update their need for care every 90 days. This requirement had been suspended, but will resume effective July 1, which means if you are on the waitlist, you should start to see emails from MCC and we ask that you update your status. Again, this helps CYS to have a better idea of childcare requirements at JBLM.

We know many of you have questions about what school is going to look like in the fall. At this time, the real answer is we don't know what school will look like. All districts have been given planning guidance and are developing those plans based on the requirements for social distancing, health, transportation, meals and many other areas that MUST meet those guidelines. Those plans then must be approved by the local school board for implementation. After that, we will have a better idea. We encourage you check your district's website as well as your individual school. We anticipate school will look different due to COVID-19. Depending on what happens with schools, childcare for our school age children may look different as well. As soon as we are able to assess the impact due to COVID-19, we will share that information.

POOLS
Due to high demand, we are changing access to McChord Pool. Effective July 3,
customers will be allowed to access to the pool in 1hr 45 min increments starting at the odd hours. For example, at 11 a.m., swimmers will be allowed into the pool. At 12:45 p.m., they will be asked to leave so the pool area can be sanitized and prepped for the next group. The next group will be allowed entrance at 1 p.m.. Capacity limits are still in place at 58 max. We appreciate your patience as we try to allow as many service members and their families to take advantage of our outdoor pool.

SWIM LESSONS
Swim lessons will resume July 11. For the safety of our customers and staff, they will be offered as parent/child or to our upper-skills level swimmers, since this will reduce the close contact between swimmer and instructor. At this time, lessons are only being offered at McChord Outdoor Pool in the mornings and evenings around our recreational swim hours. We appreciate your patience as we navigate these waters.

  • At this time, CYS is offering the remaining slots to 1D (active duty with a working spouse). Please note there will NOT be enough space for every 1D family to return care as long as COVID mitigation strategies are in place. CYS will continue to use the DOD Priority List and date care was first used to place children at JBLM. Please do not contact Parent Central about when your child will be offered a space as it delays the process.
  • Unfortunately, since CYS will be unable to place all 1D families, anyone in a lower priority, which includes dual and single DOD civilians, will not be offered a space at this time. We apologize for the continued inconvenience and disruption this causes but must continue to prioritize the safety of the children and staff.
